Renter FAQs

We know you're excited about your upcoming vacation and you may have some questions. You're not alone. We have compiled a list of some of the more frequent asks.

  • Your booking request will be completed by the Owner of the cottage.  Either the Owner or Renter can cancel the rental within 24 hours of booking for any reason at no cost.
  • Your payment takes place on the owner’s PayPal page.  No bookings occur on
  • You are booking directly with a specific owner. You can not change units without cancelling and paying the required fee and then rebooking online another unit. 
  • Most cottages have a maximum of 8 people but check the maximum occupancy prior to booking your rental.
  • No pets allowed unless the property description states pets are allowed and any applicable fee.
  • Owners  may charge cleaning fees, pet fees etc. in addition to the base rent. 
  • Only the cottage owner can communicate with the prospective renter via email or phone.  Many owners welcome questions online about their property. 
  • Renters are not allowed to provide  any payment to anyone but the owner of the cottage you are booking. 
  • is a listing portal.  The site  does not accept bookings or payments.  All transactions are done directly between the owner and renter. 

For Sherkston Shores Renters

Please note the changes for 2022

When visiting Sherkston Shores, waterpark and amenity passes are not included in the rental fees for 2022.  Waterpark passes are purchased by the renter at the Sherkston Welcome Centre.

Most units rent for 3, 4 or 7 night stays.  Mondays and Fridays are check in/out days.  

Sherkston Shores allows a maximum of 8 people per site with no day guests.  Owners set their own maximum number of guests.  All adults must be 25 years or older unless a family with adult children.     

Only two vehicles can be registered with a rental   Other vehicles will be turned away at the gate and not allowed entry.

Each unit has a maximum number of adults stated in each rental allowed. Typically between 4 and 6 adults max. Total people allowed overnight in a rental is stated in each rental.  All adults must all be 25 and older with valid gov’t ID. An exemption is available for families traveling with their adult children however parents must be present overnight in the same unit for the entire length of stay.  The resort limits overnight stay maximum of 8 people including children and a maximum of 10 people including day visitors at any time.

No one on the Do Not Rent – Sherkston Rental Lists or banned by Sherkston Shores may rent a unit. will NOT return any emails sent asking for rental assistance. The website does not assist renters.  Renters must deal directly with the Owner. 

Only technical issues will receive a response. All other communication is to be managed between Renter and Owner.

Book as early as possible to avoid disappointment and ensure you get the unit and dates you desire.

During Prime Season (June 25-Sept 6) a minimum 3 Night Weekend Friday to Monday. During Spring and Fall months (April-June 25 and Sept 7 to Oct 31) a minimum 2 Night Weekend Friday to Sunday.

Most of our rentals are available Monday to Friday, Friday to Monday and  Weekly.  Some units are available Sunday to Friday and Friday to Sunday during prime season.

Yes.  We confirm the Owner owns the property and collect pertinent information.

No.  Rental bookings do not take place on the website.    No Renter financial information is entered on our website.
Once a Renter chooses to book a specific unit they are transferred to the Owner’s PayPal booking site.
All bookings occur online with the Owner.   All funds are automatically deposited into the Owners bank account via their PayPal site that is set up and controlled by Owner.   This includes rent, service charges and damage deposits.

No.  It is the Renter’s responsibility to pick the cottage that best suits their needs. Many owners will accept emails from prospective Renters re questions about their property to help with their decision.

Please refer to the owner’s rental agreement for the cancellation terms.

Check-in times vary by unit from 2pm to 3pm and check-out time is 10am for all units . You may arrive early and stay later in the park but can not access parking, golf cart or unit prior to check in or after check out.  Check-in and check-out times are not negotiable and vary by unit.

Guests are allowed into the park at any time on the day of check-in, however your unit will not be ready until the time indicated on the agreement. If bringing food that may spoil ensure you have adequate portable cooler space in your vehicle.   

All guests are required to check-out by the time indicated on the agreement on the day of departure. No late checkouts available.

No.  Many owners do have someone onsite or close by and others are able to manage their rental themselves. We are an online rental booking portal only for Cottage Owners across Canada to list and book their properties.  

You will receive a confirmation of your booking and contact information online via your online profile.   

If you are not satisfied with your rental experience, we encourage you to work the issue out directly with the property Owner.  If this is not working, then you may consider reporting to the Owner to Better Business Bureau at  OwnertoRenterCottages does not get involved with Owner and Renter disputes.

All owners use a single cleaner in each unit. This ensures accountability. Commercial quality cleaning products are used to fight Covid-19.  All owners have units Electrostatic Sprayed including but not limited to carpet, sofas, sofa beds, outdoor patio cushions, window coverings and golf cart interiors. 

All owners provide a vacuum, broom, dust pan, j-cloths, and basic cleaning supplies. Owners ask renters to leave units vacuumed and tidy upon checkout. All garbage, food and personal items must be removed or additional cleaning fees will apply if requires additional cleaning time   

If an owner’s rental comes with a golf cart it will be noted in the listing   If it not specifically noted then there is no golf cart   All renters must be 25+ to operate a golf cart and have a valid full G license. 

No one can smoke/vape inside the unit or on the deck of any unit. 

Some unit owners allow dogs and will be noted on the listing if available and an additional fee may be charged by the Owner.
